subaru key question

Hi just a quick question ive been told that the later engines don't need the original ignition key and barrel to start them when fitted to a t25
Ive been offered a 96-97 ish EJ22 so need to know as there's no key and barrel with the loom will this be any good ?

The loom gets made up to attach to the VW loom. How much for the car? It will be ok.

When i got the car to do mine i had to hot wire it so defo no key for me you might be thinking of the later seat engines etc

I now have my engine and loom but no key im just hoping its going to work, the subaru it came from was a 96 or 97 the previous owner can't quite remember which :?
