my gearstick sometimes does like to come out of 3rd, I tighten the already failing connection on the gearbox end a couple of months ago and now the linkage is half falling apart, it is going to be okay for the next couple of journies but does anyone have a etka diagram so that I can track the relevant part numbers I need to order?
I assume it will be from the bar end to the gearbox.

i did the same job on my van a couple of months ago and it made a huge difference. i phoned my local vw dealership and dicribed the bits i needed ,they were all there within two days and all correct. the most worn bit was the selector lever that was also corroded on to the end of the shift rod. i did end up with a spare boot. if you want it i can post it to you. will save you a couple of quid on the job.
Some of the basic refurb part nos. for selectors with a description here in Wiki..
