westy pop top went pop

Me and the boy were sleeping at tha top of the garden in the van last night it was a bit cold but ok (should have gone for more than 2.5 tog duvet).

When I put the pop top down there was a loud pop/snap and on investigation the end of the little cable which connects the spring into the circular bit in the middle of the upright has broken off.

I didn't think these springs did very much but trying to put the top up without them is a right b.......

Has anybody done this job, can you get the bit or is it time for a technical bodge.

Thanks for info, but I've fixed it for now using a large split pin and a small bolt wonder how long it will last!
