Sounds like a flat battery. Does the starter even try to turn or is it completely dead? A good battery should be 13.2 volts and nearer 14.4 when the engine is running.

If you have an ammeter, try disconnecting one of the battery leads and fitting the ammeter between the terminal and the lead. If you get a reading here it means that something is working or shorting. Were the lights left on, even an interior light will flatten a battery in a couple of days.

Try recharging the battery with a mains powered trickle charger for 12 hours plus and then try the starter again and the ammeter test.

The symtpom you describe couild cover anything from a dead battery or jammed bendix to a siezed engine. 1/ do the dash lights dim out as you turn the key?2/ do you hear a click as the bendix gear engages?3/ or can you hear the starter motor spin up without cranking the motor?Even a fully charged battery can drop to around 9V when turning a cold engine. I would suspect a flat battery. A jump start from a friends battery or power pack will sort that out. Or if you have a battery chargerr give that a go overnight and try again. Has the charging light been extinguishing when the motor ran. Are the battery terminals clean and tight?
More questions than answers here but thats what you need to be asking yourself.
Hope this helps
