Dometic Fridge coversion to 220v

Hi there.

Just wondering if anyone out there has converted a 110v Dometic fridge to 220v by changing the element?

Brought my Vanagon Westy in for the US and of course she is a 110v job. Would like to be able to hook up to leccy at campsites without using a converter and think this might be the way to go.

Any thoughts gratefully appreciated.

Transformer is your answer; commonly available for power tools. I'd be looking at army surplus depots like Anchor Supplies, for one cheap. Or new, about £40 at Rapid Electronics (www.rapidonline.co.uk). If you or someone you know is electrically competent, you could buy a bare power transformer for quite a bit less than that.

But much easier than trying to locate the right heater element I would have thought.

Pull the fridge out, remove the 110V element, replace with 230V element, sort out any other wiring issues while you`re there, have you got an RCD / overload trip fitted? Do it all while the fridge is out and the wiring is accessable. New 16A cable from your hook-up inlet socket, to the RCD breaker, then out to your mains powered sockets etc.
