Fuel problem?

Post by SeanW »

Hi chaps,

I recently purchased an '89 1.7TD Bilbo's Arragon, but am having some problems. On hills, when the fuel gage shows just below 1/4 tank she loses all power and the engine stops. I then have to stop and wait a couple minutes and she starts again.

It has scared the hell out of me when driving on motorways when there is no hard shoulder and she suddenly stops

Could it be a fuel intake problem? Maybe my gage is seriously inaccurate and she's actually sucking down air when the remaining fuel runs to one end of the tank?

Thanks guys and gals,

You could have got something floating in the tank and blocking the outlet when the fuel reaches a certain level ?

I acquired a dead spider that clogged my fuel filter ... good job I have gas

Have you drained the water from or changed your fuel filter lately?

Same with my van. I just take quarter as empty.

Defiantly drain the fuel filter, or consider changing it, they are only about £10

Drove her today and kept fuel levels above 1/4 and there was no problem. Hope it's not a dead spider  I'm going to change the fuel filter as I've got no idea when it was last changed.

Thanks for the help!
