My mates Fiesta Diesel got trashed by a t8sser. It's now scrap. He offered me the engine. My question is: Has anyone done the conversion and is it worth the hassle? What approx mpg should I get? I know about the adapter plate but what else is needed? I sort of looked at this a while ago but that was when I thought engine was stuffed and I had no choice!
In a nutshell, do you think it's worth it?
Thanks
Ford 1.8 engine in my 2.0 A/C

i dont think its a worthwhile transplant tbh. firstly you will have to fit all the cooling system as yours in an Aircooled then theres the fact the ford derv motor wasnt particularly pokey in the first place. plus the hassle of mountings etc it would be easier to fit the derv from a t3 where all the engineering has been done for you.
Re: . . 1.8 engine in my 2.0 A/C
The advantage, of course, is that I am getting the engine for nothing. (Well, just a bit of labour on the new vehicle they get). I should have said, as I have a moped and a car, the mileage I do in the van is only about 1500 a year. If it were more economical I may do up to 2500 a year. Not a lot of miles to recoup my expenditure I agree!
Incidentally, I would be doing all the labour and any welding myself. Most parts would be sourced from the scrapyard.

Fit under the hatch? No! That is the main negative. Think I am gonna stick with A/C. Seems I'll never recoup costs even though engine is free!
Ah well. Time to think up another daft non starter!
