wont start Aircooled 2litre

Post by TimL »

1980 westy joker, i bought this recently. after driving it only a few times the camper decided to to suddendly stop. I thought to begin with it had run out of fuel. engine turns on starter motor will occasi0onally fire up then die instantly.
AA man said it was probably coil or ignition control unit i have now replaced both but still get same results ie fires then dies. ihave changed the plugs for new ones still no change . have bought new leads but yet to fit. this van ran fine until this sudden failure. i have petrol coming to the carbs as the plugs are getting wet. their was no idler unit fitted prior to the not starting but like isay ran fine. battery is fully charged
chrome dont get u home

If it has got fuel (pour a capful down carb if in doubt, be careful), sparks (take a look when cranking, spare plug in a lead in subdued light, good clear blue spark, not splashy weak thing) and compression it should at least run (sortof). Only other thing is timing way out...
