Danbury side elevating roof

Trying to find info / pictures of the struts and supports for this roof.

I have an exterior gas strut at each end with an aluminium prop which locks the roof up when a pin is inserted, new struts are needed but otherwise this works ok.
Inside the roof on the offside of the vehicle nearest the roof hinges there is a piece of aluminium track rivited to the original steel roof I would like to know what this was used for? there is no wiring etc so i dont think it was originally an electrically operated roof.

Can anyone shed any light on this ?
