Hi,could anyone tell me which is number one cylinder on 1.9DG watercooled engine. According to Wiki its the front cylinder on right as you look from rear. According to Haynes it is right hand cylinder nearest the fly wheel(I think that makes it the right rear :? ) Which is correct?.I am having a mare doing the timing. Thanks Don

ok, I THINK the firing order is 1 - 4 - 3 - 2

I KNOW the leads on the right hand side of my the dizzy cap "cross".

No. 1 is, as you look at the engine, the plug nearest the driver, assuming RHD. So that would be front right looking at it. No. 2 is back right.

Number 3 is front left, and number 4 is back left. Front is front of van, and back is back of van.

3 1

4 2

*you are here, standing at the engine hatch, sratching your head and cursing!!

The crossing of leads on the dizzy gets you the 1432 firing order.

If I am wrong I will delete this!

ps- isn't the flywheel at the front end of the engine (nearer the front of the van) which would make mr haynes correct??

haynes says RHD cylinder nearest flywheel. Isn't that the same as the one identified in wiki....

flywheel is at the cab end of the engine, twixt gearbox and block? Therefore, the rhd side at the front of the engine, with front being towars the front of the van - would be as it says on wiki?

Your not thinking of the pulley on the back of the engine are you...(just behind number plate flap?

Am at work, so can't see mr haynes. Someone who knows more than me will be along shortly - so hang fire!

There's a photo in the wiki that helps with this:

Sorry. Haynes has some good basic information. I use Bently most of the time, but Haynes on occasion too.

Good drawing Kev.

Thanks Kevtherev your drawing saved the day. By the way I was joking when I refered to Haynes as "The Bible",some good information but a bit light on some diagrams. Saying that I've still managed to find my way around my bus,and I've enjoyed working on it as well, although sometimes I think I need my head testing.
