Yellow Indicator Bulbs
After buying some smoked rear light lenses for me van, then finding that they replace Hella fittings and I`ve got Ulo, I got hold of some Hella bulb holders only to find that some idiot has offset the pins on the yellow indicator bulb and the f**kers won`t fit !!! Can anyone advise me as to what to do next. Can you buy those indicator bulbs with the pins opposite each other or do you have to go down the line of painting the bloody bulbs ???

On a regular stop, brake or revering light bulb, rated at 21 watts, the locating pins are exactly opposite each other ( 6`o`clock) with one set higher than the other. On the yellow indicator bulbs, rated at 21w, the pins are offset (5`o`clock) so they will not fit in the Hella lamp holder where you would normally put a clear, pins opposite, type bulb for the indicator. As these smoked lenses have a clear lens for the indicator, I assumed that you would need a yellow bulb. I cannot change the bulbholder.

Yellow bulbs are commonly ofset pins to prevent people fitting white ones in their place, hence you won't find a white bulb with ofset pins.
You can though get amber coaxual pined bulbs which is what it sounds like you need. They are less common than the ofset ones as less cars use them, so check the racks carefully; I think they'll be number 382 on the box as thats what the clear ones are. Good sources are probubly a local motorfactor or LSUK as they'll be much cheeper than halfrords who won't have a clue. Land Rover or Mini specalists will probubly do them too as alot of owners fit clear indicators to them though it shouldn't be expencive.

Thanks for the advice. After searching the net for these 382 bulbs, I`ve found a whole selection of orange flashing ones that I never even knew existed. It never occurred to me that the pins on the normal orange coloured bulbs would have the pins offset to prevent some cretin from putting them in the wrong bulbholders. Hang on a minute, might I be that cretin ??? One of these days I`m going to come in to the 21st century but not at the expense of giving up me van !
