Removing rear heater in a caravelle

Post by Emma&Al »

Ive taken the seats out of my Caravelle and replaced with a westy full width rock n roll bed - the rear heater/blower is still in place, sitting under the bed.

What do i need to do to remove it? I really dont need it and it takes up so much storage space..

Im worried about dismantling as im not sure how it runs...actually, what does in run on??? its not petrol is it?!

It runs of a branch in the front heater water circuit. I personally would keep it, it's great for drying shoes and boots, and is great in the winter.

If you do want to remove it, all you need to do is to blank off the two water pipes under the van, or take out the two tee pieces from the long front to back heater hoses, and replace with a straight connector. Just cut the hose and plug, and secure with a jubilee clip will surfice.

The wires that control the fan should unplug somewhere underneath.

Thanks a lot simon.
Ive toyed with the idea of keeping it, but i dont use it and the van's really quite warm, even in the winter. Because i have a tin top, the space under the bed is really valuable to me, so i've decided it needs to go!

Thanks again

If you are going to remove the heater, first put both the front and rear heater controls to OFF. This will help to reduce coolant loss. Have a suitable plug to hand, and be quick. You could just squeeze either side of the hose with two small g clamps, or mole grips, or anything really.
That way helps to reduce the amount of air that will inevitably get in the system, and coolant that will get out. When you have removed, and made good, keep the front heater on for a good long run, to help get rid of any air, just the slide control, not the fan. Then keep an eye on the top up tank behind numberplate, she will prob need a bit of coolant.
