it's called a hella socket, and is a 12v- 30v accsessory point, designed to do the job, which a cigar socket is not designed to do, plugging anything into a cigar socket that draws anymore amperage than a mobile phone charger is a fire risk, pure and simple, as a majority of cigar plugs are a poor contact, and poor contacts are a major source or fires in vehicles, use the socket that is designed to do the job, change the plug, not the socket, unless you are just charging a mobile phone.

if you can't find one anywhere, they're available here (called winkelstecker)

yes, those are the hella plugs, if you ring Alan at TP he will sell you just the plugs, or order direct from Altia, in manchester, about £2 each iirc.

Hella plugs and sockets are rated at 20amp, cigar plugs are rated at 0.5 amp.

sorry about the confussion. It's all okay now!

I was looking for an adaptor that enables appliances with a cigar lighter plug to run from the hella socket. Got one nice double one from Thunderpole for £7.99.

I now realise that not all appliances have a cigar lighter plug because they draw a higher amperage and therfore require to be fitted with a hella plug.

Is this right? Duh! :?
