*SOS* Westy 240v (sorted now!)

Post by Nicola&Tony »

Just had a phone call from Big Tam, he's camping at Filey, Yorkshire Coast, with his son this week. They're on a site and have the hook-up connected which is working the fridge nicely but he's getting no output from his 240v socket in the van (it's a 2-pin socket which he's got a 3-pin adaptor in).

Has anybody got any ideas what the problem might be? Tom's pretty handy on the tools, especially electrical stuff so it's surprising that he's not found the problem yet. I don't know whether he's got tools and a meter with him (probably has) but I'll get more info if needed, or share his mobile number by pm if somebody wants to speak to him about this.

Very grateful if anyone can help with this, it's gonna make his week a bit tricky if he can't get it fixed.

Tony :?

Long shot here, but most vans have a ECB (earth leakage breaker) unit usually close to the Hook up connector as it enters the van (in a cupboard?) and most have two switches that drop out in the event of a fault. One switch controls the feed to the 240V fridge, the other to any 240V sockets. Check that both switches on the ECB unit are pointing in the same direction). If it drops out again, turn the UK-continental adaptor so that it fits the other way around. If it drops out again, may be the item is drawing too much power or he has a faulty appliance.

Hope this helps, if it don't......I tried..... :(

Have spoken to Tom again. Turns out the fridge wasn't working after all, it was cold because Mrs Big Tam had put some frozen meals in there!

It was the hook-up point on the site that was faulty!

Thanks again AngeloEvs for trying to help!
