Diesel pump cut out question

Post by kit »

Just trying to sort out a starting problem, does anyone know if the engine is running and the solenoid was disconnected would the engine stop? Having odd starting problems and found the lead to the solenoid was brittel and loose, but once started it is running sweet.

Yes the engine would stop. That is in fact how the engine is shut down when you turn off the key. Its the only power supply to the engine when its actually running (aside from oil pressure sender etc.) so if it sticks on, you have to stall the engine to turn it off. If the lead was brittle and loose, it might not be getting enough amps to stay open when the heater plugs and starting motor are sucking the rest of the power.

The fuel shut off solenoid needs a live feed for the engine to run, and it doesn't matter if it is a diesel or petrol engine, if this part isn't working as it should neither will the engine.

Sounds like you have found your problem.......

Cheers mate I was not sure if the power was needed to keep it open or was used to close it, that makes sence now.
