compatible engines for T25...what have you got?
I am new to this vehicle. I am about to buy a very old (1981) vehicle, which has a water cooled engine, a replacement for the original air cooled 1600.
I am considering the work i may do on this lovely van, and would like to know who has what engine in theirs, and if anyone can give advice on easily available engines that would 'fit'...
Looking forward to reading you

You can stick any engine in the van, it just depends how deep your pockets are.
I have a diesel conversion kit (exc sump) if you decide to go down diesel route.
Have a peruse on this topic you will see alternative engines which can be installed.
One thing to consider is the insurance if you go bigger, I have installed a 2.9litre cosworth engine and the insurance

The engine in it's rightful place.

Thanks for your responses....
My goodness, I cant believe that the van is big / strong enough to support an engine like that!
So, what if the push comes to shove, and I decide to merge the engine from my Mercedes 190 Diesel with my VW van?
Is it possible, in theory?
Am i best to look at Audi or VW (or Suburu etc.)
PS. In case it is not blindingly obvious, I am a girl with not a lot of technical know-how!

The engine that is in is diesel...does that mean it didn't have an air cooled engine previously? Like I say, I am on a learning curve here!
And I am getting a little more savvy by trawling through posts for info.
Thanks all
