Camping Gaz prices

Post by hightower »

Just wondered what sort of price you guys are paying for 907 (6.5lb i think) camping gaz refills, i paid £18.99 :( each for 2 refills at a local gas cylinder wholesaler place, it was recommended to me by a friend as being cheaper than camp sites. I never new they were so expensive.

That's about what I paid yesterday at my local camping supplies shop.

First time I've bought one. Thought it'd be about a tenner. Wonder if it's gone up the same way as domestic gas?

If you use your camper a lot my advice would be to invest in a re-fillable underfloor gas tank (Gasure now do them) OR a re-fillable cylinder for fixed mounting inside the van.

As an example I topped up our 20 ltr underfloor the other night for £7.23 for 13.4 litres

It depends on how much it costs really.

I use my bus loads - and i only use two bottles a year.

How much does an underslung tank cost fully fitted?

Having said that, i'd probably use the fridge all the time on gas if i had one - now im a tight get and dont use it really...

PS. Yes, Camping Gaz is VERY expensive!

Yeah i think i'm with you on this one Ringo, i doubt i will be using the gas to the extent that it would make that conversion viable.

But compared with the big calor gas cylinders you can get camping gaz is well expensive, i expected about £10 each

£14.99 for a 907 from Yeomans Outdoors in Buxton but I reckon all branches would charge the same.

Only use 2 a year max. meself so £30 ain't too bad

£16.20 at 'Go Outdoors' in Coventry (with discount card). I use a fair whack of it if the weather's cold and I fire up the old Propex. I prefer to pay for the gas than freeze my bits off!!

if you use the camper a lot, a underfloor tank will pay for itself in a year, i was using 10x 4.5kg calor bottles a year @£14 each. and they hold twice as much gas as a 907.

the last year has cost me less than £12 in my underfloor tank and its better gas too

Sweet jesus Steve, what the hell were you doing? I hope you had a propex on!

Im in my van a minimum of two nights a week - and probly cook one meal a day. I dont boil the kettle in between meals as im at work.
We go away probably 15-20 weekends and spend minimum of two weeks on holiday.

All that last year for three bottles of 907 (one week we had the fridge on gas and it used a bottle in a week).

What were you doing?

We used (or had to swap part-empty) 2 7kg Calors @£15 ... I'll bet they're nearer £20 now :? That's mostly wild camping, fridge on all the time, cooking food for 4 at least once a day and brewing up (well, a bit :whistle ). This way I can top up for a few quid when I know I need to .. via the guage on the side.

The space the 7kg lived in now holds the spares for our holiday and with room to spare.
