Starting problems

Post by J188 »

My van is poorly :(
When i start the van the ignition is fine and the van 'starts' with a little pumping on the pedal, i've been told this is what to expect with an older engine. However it has recently developed a problem where it starts but unless you keep your foot on the accelerator around two thousand revs for 30seconds - 1min the engine will splutter and cut out. It will keep doing this a few times unless you keep revs on and eventually it'll be ok and you can find gear and go.
The engine is a 1.9 water cooled. I was just wondering if there is any explanation for this, could it been the choke sticking or not opening ?
