Water pipes
Hi,the metal water pipes on my 1985 Caravelle are perished. I've just looked on Just Kampers and they sell a flange that looks like you just fasten a rubber hose to.Would this do? Mine has gone from the right hand side of the engine block to the bottom of the water pump. Also the metal pipe that runs from the top right hand side of engine into the thermostat housing. Has anyone had similar problems? I thought I could just get the pipes braised but the metal is too thin. We where hoping to get away for the night on saturday but that is looking unlikely
I would have thought JK would sell these because I would have thought it would be a fairly common problem. Any help or advice would be very welcome. Thanks Don

Metal rusts, rubber perishes - which is it?

What is the engine type please, Caravelle doesn't quite provide that info!

Thers 3 set of water pipes on the DG
025 121 081D (big'un, across engine really more of a water maniold?) 081C if its a DF
025 121 180A Front
Front 025 121 151 and 171 (joined with hose)
All would be between £35 to £60 I imagine each!
If the terminations are really in good nick I suppose you could hose them together... with top quality hose.
But I know little about Dgs so wait for soemone else to say what the normal repair is for these, who does know!

Well clean and deburr the edges very well and find a hose that's a very good fit and use high quality clamps, again of the right size range, so there are no flats, else you'll have leaks - there not being any swages. Support the hoses well at md-length.
If you have problems, try twin hose-clips with a small gap betwen them
Best of luck with it.

A previous owner has replaced some of my pipework with rather posh stainless steel welded flangytubes. Lucky old me what!skell wrote:one of mine has been bodged with three hose clips at each end of the rubber section for several years now without any further leakage.
Cheers
