Engine cuts out
Hello
I've got a 2.1 and it starts well runs for several miles but then it loses all power and dies. If i leave for a few minutes it starts up again eventually but once it gets into 4 gear with the accelerater flat to the floor it dies again. Been to the garage to have carb mixtures done and breather pipe sorted but has not fixed problem.PLEASE ANY IDEAS

Not familiar with 2.1 unit, but we have a 1.9 DG which had similar symptoms. Having checked the sparks and renewing the dizzy etc, the van ran like a dream on a run, but it continued to cut out when slowing down for roundabouts and traffic lights etc.
One bit that might be worth a try is the 'Fuel Pump Push Rod'. I renewed this last week and the van now runs much smoother. The part is from GSF and was all of £4.50 and a doddle to fit! Cutting out seems to have all but stopped since.

there should only be one fuel filter, the mechanical pump is designed to work with one filter that is next to the tank outlet, so if you have two it will be affecting the pump.
win wont have a push rod for his pump, as the 2.1 (if its not been converted to carb) has a electronic fuel pump, not a mechanical.......

I'm just searching previous posts because our van has developed an irritating cutting-out habit, usually whilst manouvering about in a car park or doing a 5 point turn

Looking for: window apertures for side windows, at the back of the van

tony, yours sounds more like a vac prob, esp if you are using you brakes at low revs when it happens, check all the vac pipes for leaks(sucks) by spraying wd40 on the joins and suspect pipes, dont forget the large vac pipe to the servo off the end of the manifold

kevtherev wrote:then it begs the question... does it cut out on LPG Tony?
Yes it does Kev. I don't know if it's cutting out on petrol because I only switch it over to liquid gold once a month for approx. 5 miles, so haven't had it happen on petrol yet. It's happened a few times recently, all on lpg.
As for fuel pump push rod, is that just part of the petrol side of things? Apologies for me numptiness!

Thanks Steve, I'll have a look at the vacuum pipes, once I've figured out where they are . . . me basic car maintenance course never mentioned vacuum pipes!
