roof rack on a villa 3

Post by stives_daz »

I need to sort out having a surfboard on the roof of my holdsworth villa 3. The other half is fed up with the thing knocking around in the van.

I'm just wondering if there is any examples I can see and options I have. I was thinking of getting some brackets and screwing them to the sides then just bungy cords over the roof.

The ideal thing would be to fit a roof rack straight into the roof. I'm just concerned with getting leaks or the fiberglass cracking. I saw a picture of a westfalia that had a roof rack and the roof was able to still be extended, just wondering where I could find one and the best way to fit one.

thanks all

mines an auto sleeper poptop a little different i know. i mount mine inside strapped up to the roof whilst im driving . fins upwards and the nose just coming in to the cab. just attached some loops for the straps. i can also fit two in side by side. no worries about theft or aerodynamics either. just lock under the van at night with a thin cable lock through the leash attachment.just remember its there before driving off.

I made some hooking plates for mine - they hook under the pop top sides and extend up to the top of the roof (about 30cm long) where there is a whole for the ratchet straps to go into. Four of these and the board (using padding from an old camping matt) was strapped down firmly.

I didnt want to drill holes in my pop top as i rarely take the board anywhere nowadays...

Not quite a professional look - but it works!
