Oily Turbo......What should I do...?

Post by peepingheads »

Hello

Managed to sort the oil in the water problem out, replaced the oil cooler and it's all good now. Found a small water leak, one of the hoses had not been refitted correctly by the previous owner and the seal had not been made properly, I could hear the leak before I could see it, sounded like a puncture in a bike tube, only a very small amount of water that was evaporating on the block before I could get round to see it, refitted the hose and all is good with that too now.

The Turbo - well I assume that is the problem, no black smoke or noise problems with it, but I think the oil should be on the inside of it and not all over the outside....

Anyone have any ideas of what I should look at next to try and solve the oily looking bits....

Attached a pic or two to help with the description, hope they attach properly....

Take off the inlet pipe to the turbo (the rubber swan-neck with the long placcy pipe attached) and have a look at the inside of the turbo inlet to see if it`s very oily in there. Your turbo looks like it`s got an oil feed or oil drain leak, rather than coming from the turbo bearing housing, but it`s hard to tell from the pics. Does it use much oil? Is there a lot of oil in the inlet pipes? Could be your engine breather from the top of the engine is passing a lot of oil vapour and it`s showing up down there at the turbo.
Keep it real.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I took the pipe off and one of the brass washers on the fitting was cracked, replaced that and cleaned it all up.

I think that has sorted it out.
