Just got me one of these ....

So does this mean I need to get a big amp battery or with low usage will a small amp suffice??

Laptop and charging up camcorder / camera batteries etc ......
Do not really want to be loading camper with every day appliances if I can get away with it

Mind you a really small microwave could be handy but I guess that's just silly

wow is that a 1000 watt inverter?

you only need a 300watt for charging batteries really... and lappys

a 600watt will do tellys and games consoles DVD players

As in bigger is not always better

My line of thinking was that the bigger the more efficient at power conversion it was

No. But if you're just charging phones etc it hardly matters. Their efficiency improves as the load increases I believe.

Pro's and cons
Pro's
1000watt means that you can run pretty much anything apart from heaters, hair dryers and kettles.
Cons
If all you are going to run are small consumers ie; phone charger (less than 15watts) laptop (less than 100watts) then an invertor this size is not be very efficient and will consume considerably more than a small 300watt unit powering the same accessories.
Converting 12.6 volts to 230volts and then back down to 19volts with a laptop adaptor is extremely inefficient when you can buy an in car charger for you phone and laptop.
1000watts is always nice to have but remember when you use it the auxilary battery is going to go flat very quickly.
