propex heater?

Post by splitty65 »

i have an 88 autohomes karisma. everything electical appears to work but i can not get the heating to work. the gas full and the switch in th cupboard is on, the control unit has power. when it is turned on there is an audiable click but heat does not come out. is there a way of testing the unit or knowing that it is alight without stripping all the units out?
any help or advice appreciated.

So are you getting cold blown air? Then the fans working but not producing warm air before cutting out?
Try turning the thermostat up higher (if its got one). You need to turn it all the way round on warm-ish days such as this week otherwise the it will not fire up.

as tony says^^^
if the leisure battery is below 10.5 volts the heater will not keep going.
try it with your engine running

My new (to me) 89 Holdsworth Visions heater wouldn't work.

My heater tried to auto spark for about 10 seconds but no heat. I found a shut off gas tap was closed behind a kitchen door, plus once I established gas supply at the heater itself it would only fire up and work if the control unit was set to 1/2 flame- no idea why but now it works every time.

I service the one fitted to my 1988 Leisuredrive camper when I got it. I took it out and had the lid off to see everything looked good. Mine was connected to a tap inserted into the bottle to hob/fridge circuit which you could have missed if you didn't know where it was. I did find a black wire burned and open circuit in the loom and replaced it with a more adequate looking wire. I tested it on the bench with the gas connection connected straight to the regulator and the electrics to a spare battery. It can be used as a fan in one position and with heat in the other. When the stat is turned up the fan runs and a clicking noise ocurrs as the sequence begins. You can clearly hear it light up and feel the hot exhaust. Email or phone Propex for a manual and chat them up about it. I found then very helpfull.
