CLK320 wheels on a syncro?

Post by binner »

Hi guys

I've done some searching and found this link

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewto ... ?p=3108991

One of the users says he has fitted Merc CLK 320 wheels on his syncro without spacers. Maybe with 205 tyres they'd be allright.

Specs of 16x7 with an ET 37

These wheels are cheap enough down here in OZ but i'm wondering if anyone has experience of fitting them?

Will my stock 1.6TD pull them if i go for a lowish profile rubber?

Cheers

merc 15x7 et37 with 215/75/15 mt's are ok just with no front mudflaps so find a tyre the same diameter as that you should be ok

Yup, provided your engine is good and pulls well... if it's getting tired then be circumspect, and sort that first.

But you are thinking of putting low-profile tyres on a syncro, so not going for off-road grip then - or do you swap wheels'n'tyres for off-roading?

The lugholes need to be enlarged to accept the 14mm stud of the Syncro. The MB cars these came from use 12mm bolts. The are forged alloys so strong and light in weight. They are also thinner at the mounting pad compared to cast alloy wheels. The net result is you do not need to use longer studs to fit them onto your Syncro. The lugnuts will be a bit off in contour but I know dozens of guys running around Baja California w/o having a these wheels fall off. If you want to get fancy, then recontour the seats or use washers. Otherwise, just make the hole bigger and bolt them on. I can get billet aluminum centercaps for these too if anyone is looking.

You can go to a plus size such as 225/55/16 tires to run them w/o major clearance issues.
