LT Mirrors, are there early ones ????

Post by mearnsy »

Due to cost and availability, i am opting for LT mirrors, does anyone have any photos of their T25 with LT mirrors so i can see how they look.

Ive seen the wiki detail but would like a better shot.

They are actually not "syncro" mirrors... they were an option on any T3 so Aidan tells me.. (i'll stand to be corrected on that, I may have misunderstood) I have seen a factory wide body single cab 2wd with them on as they stick out further its just that a lot of Syncro's (16" usually) were specced with them for some reason... maybe most 16" came with them as VW made an effort to "tough them up"... (speculation on my part   )

CJ/Aidan/Russel... etc etc.. ????

Here you go boyo, hopefully if I'm a computer geek there should be some pictures of me van with some LT mirrors on.
They do need holes in your pride and joy drilling and the top fitting isn't quite right but you can hardly notice it.
They don't stick out quite as far as Syncro ones but I now prefer that!
Suppose I have to really - if you need any more just ask.
Regards
Mark.

I don't have any pics at moment, but have modified LT's on our van. I shortened the arm at bottom by 61mm so mirrors stand vertical instead of out at bottom. Do a search for LT syncro mirrors as I posted exactly what I did.

Upper mounts are same on LT and syncro, but use a different packing/gasket. Lower mounts are different, but only in that LT mounts have mounting holes closer together then syncro mounts... same casting. I'll take a few pics tomorrow. Email me and I'll send them to you.

Early LT Mirrors?????

Post by mearnsy »

Right, i have now bought a set for £25 of a local bloke, refurbed them and im ready to fit. Only thing is that the holes in the bottom bracket dont line up with the existing holes for my std mirrors.

The ones i have bought appear to be a simplified version as the bottom bracket doesnt have a spring in it.

The part ref for these is 291 857 513/514.

Now i am confused.

Hello there,

The lower mounting bracket is narrower than the original one and so only one bolt hole lines up, for the other you will have to drill into your van.

I used the hole toward the front of the van and drilled towards the rear and let the screw sort of tap itself into the van, I had spare screws so could afford to sacrifice one in the process. Just don't drill too big a hole or there will be nowt to tap into!

Then I just used the original plastic gasket ( larger ) to cover anything of the original hole......works a treat. Oh and cover everything with grease/copaslip to stop the dreaded tinworm!

The arms should be quite stiff to move on the van and nearly impossible when in your hand, and not sure if there are early or late mirrors they all look the same to me!?

Regards Mark

In fact the bottom bracket looks more like the top, is is very different to your bottom bracket.

The pics here are of late model kind of LT bracket. Early LT arm has flat at bottom and top to connect to bracket... same top bracket, different bottom bracket. So you must have early LT arms.
