newbie questions

Post by marc123 »

hello all just a couple of questions for you they might be simple but i am a newbie so bear with me
1) When i use my eberescher night heater if i put the switch on to the symbol with the fan it works continously but if i put it on the symbol with the 3 lines that are vertical it will only run for about 30 secs to 1 min then the motor stops. Can anyone one tell me why it does this :-)
2) The van i own is a 1991 German Westie California, what i would like to know is when i buy an extension lead for my electric hook up do i buy a UK standard lead from argos or do I need to get a different one for england and a different one for france, also do i need to switch anything on in the van or switch anything off when i hook up to the power supply in the uk or france as i've read in other post's that some things like the split charger get hot when you are hooked up to 240v also does the difference in volts in the uk and europe cause a problem with the van.
3) When the van is hooked up does it charge the batteries in the van.
4) In the van under the steering wheel i have a knob that looks like a manual choke can anyone tell me what this is for as i can't seem to see where it goes to.
5) Finally the van i drive is the 1.6td engine and i cruise on the motorway at 100km/h which is about 3 to 3500 revs is this a good speed to cruise at or do you think it could cruise at 4000 revs or would i be straining the engine
Thanks in advance for your answers.
Marc

The 3 lines means turn on the heat - the other option is the fan. Try switching it on when the engine is running - this should fix it. If not, do a search for "eberspacher" and read - also look at the wiki - lots of info there.

Dont know if Argos sell them, but i have an UK type lead then use an adapter to change it to a european plug. Dont worry about the volts...

3) When the van is hooked up does it charge the batteries in the van. Should do but not very fast. I havent got a westy so cant comment really.

4) In the van under the steering wheel i have a knob that looks like a manual choke can anyone tell me what this is for as i can't seem to see where it goes to.

Emma was right..

5) Finally the van i drive is the 1.6td engine and i cruise on the motorway at 100km/h which is about 3 to 3500 revs is this a good speed to cruise at or do you think it could cruise at 4000 revs or would i be straining the engine

Dunno about this one. I always drive them like i've stole them so mine never last too long.
