Gearbox breather ?

Post by Krisis »

Hi
Ive taken the box out to change the clutch, I was just getting ready to blast it with the jet wash when I thought, is there a breather?
I had a nosey around, lots of dirt and general crap and I cant see anything !
Looked in book, nothing, WIKI no I cant see for looking.
If there is a breather, where is it ?

Yes, but I dont think on a 2WD box its more than a small bleed hole PM Aiden (80-90 name Beaker) and he'll tell you. Chances are it would be on the top somewhere though!

Thanks Hacksaw,
I will send a pm and have a closer look tomorrow after I finish work.
It seems strange, as there must be a pressure build up and for it to be a sealed unit would surely damage the seals :?

ps I have some info that I want to put up on wiki but cannot login :?

On a 1.9 5 speed it's at the front (i.e nearer the front of the van) nearside top corner and is a tiny (about 1/8" ... 3mm in new money) hole.

Mr Hulley
About 3mm? thats probibley why I cant see it  because of the amount of muck on it from 10,000 of miles
Thank you I shall investigate later today when Ive finished work.
