bike rack on the back

Post by grame »

Does anyone know where I can get a rear bike rack (not towbar) for a smaller price than the Fiamia? Can a car one fit a van with adjustments?

Car ones fit ok, I just find them a PITA with the straps to hold it on. I also end up fixated with it worrying that it will fall off.

I've got a universal folding one I have had for 20 years - on every shape of car from T25 to Porsche, so it fits anything, and have done several thousand miles.

Only thing keeps me worring is that the load is partially on the centre of the rear window, so have nightmares that it will punch straight through the window when I go over a pothole. But, it is well padded and load is spread, and did not even cause a problem when off-roading with it on my landrover, so probably just overly nervous.

Other consideration is that whilst you can lock the bikes to the rack, the rack is not locked to the van, so a very strong oportunist thief could walk off with your bikes and rack together.
