Hi,
I would like to get a roof rack for my 2 surfboards, and if possible a small roofbox to go alongside.
Do you think that one which attaches via brackets in the pop top will be strong enough for this:
1. When driving fast?
2. With the pop top raised at night time?
I have spent so long searching the net and forums that my eyes are drying up! I have seen the sherpa kombi transit, the kari-tec kayak system, some nice looking canadian privately made ones (http://www.telusplanet.net/public/gary2a/vw.htm) with brackets which also bolt onto the rain gutters while driving, some simple westfalia brackets which bolt to the pop top and you attach a regular roof rack to and so on.
The member Jed the spread has bolted a rack for a kayak to his roof via a roof bar and seems to have raised the pop top ok, although his pop top is different to mine
https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.p ... t=pop+rack
So, what are everyones thoughts, how much weight can a raised westfalia pop top support? (1987 westy rear hinged pop top) Also would it make a difference if the rack is bolted to the sides of the pop top rather than the top (as it would be if i bolted on roof rails from an estate car?)
thanks for any and all advice
