Post by jpee »

Hi all is it really worth doing a redex treatment to prevent or reduce carbon build up and do products like molyslip really help reduce engine wear what are your thoughts.
Never sure where I'm going till i get there.

Mmm..
modern fuels are prob cleaning the engine better than ever now.. they have 10% ethanol in them and thats good at cleaning out the gunk.. a properly tuned and serviced engine will be clean too.. and it never hurts to give them a it of stick every now and then to "clear them out", you can drive too gently..

I have used "redex" type products and I have seen some improvements (without any other factors affecting) but is it because it has "cleaned" the fuel system/engine.... cant tell..
I am not a big fan of oil addatives.... a good quality oil changed regularly ought to be sufficient.. even in a gearbox.. change the oil for fresh good quality.. Having said that.. I have used molyslip in a gearbox once (Not T25), without changing the oil and the gearshift was a bit better... but I have also just changed the oil in the box (t25) and the shift has improved too....

I wouldnt use "slick50"... the "PTFE" particals are too soft to do anything in a gearbox where the shear forces are high and in an engine its been said its an expensive way to fill your oil filter.. perhaps the oil the "particals" are suspended in has a high lubrication property that maked the difference..

There was a thread about those stupid magnets you attach to the fuel line a little while ago.. waste of time........and money..

But some people would rather spend 5, 10, 20 quid on a "wonder" product than service the vehicle correctly and inflate the tires correctly..

Cheers toomany was thinking along those lines. Tried redex didn't notice any significant improvement, however a good burst along the m-way and a service worked wonders
