Big lumps of metals and spanners.

AAZ engine --what to look out for

Post by Snag20 »

I am now faced with an engine transplant as my 1.6T/D is knackered as well as its turbo !!

It is my understanding that a swap to an AAZ 1.9T/D is straightforward.

I have tracked down a suitable 100kmilage engine from rear ended '94 Golf TD.

What do I need to check out before I purchase, I understand there are some front pulley issues, should I be able to feel this if I pull on the front pulley, how much movementis acceptable ???

I have read lots of info on here and think I should use my:

1.6 exhaust manifold with the AAZ turbo, suitably re orientated
1.6 inlet manifold partially ported to match AAZ head
longer turbo to sump oil drain pipe
New crank spigot bearing
1.6 flywheel and clutch
1.6 exhaust
modified turbo oil feed pipe
modifed throttle linkage

Is this correct as Im somewhat confused with conflicting ideas over which inlet manifold to use.

cheers
Trev
