flashing red light

hi all
brought the van for short drive yesterday,about 3 miles.
on the way back i noticed red light flashing on temp dial.
the needle was in the middle when light was flashing.
then it stoped flashing after a couple of seconds.
any ideas ?

check your water level in the expansion tank, if that is okay maybe the sensor is dirty wiring loose, or if everything else wasn't quite working correctly eg indicator lamps on dash for a little while maybe a loose connection on the dashboard socket.
