how much oil ?

hi folks does anyone know how much oil to put in a 1y conversion ive used a 1.6 td dip stick n tube if i put 4.5 litres i doesn't even register has anyone else had this problem?

Hi Kipper, ornate name to go with a Smoker !!
Anyway in answer to your problem, you have done the right thing with only adding 4.5lte of oil in I take it you have used the angled sump,?
If you use the dipstick that was with the 1Y it will not register at all on stick, but in your posting it says your using the 1.6TD dipstick and its not even touching the oil, wiered that I have a 1Y an use a 1.6CS/NA stick and tube and mine register,s 20mm from the bottom of the stick with 4.5lte in .Dont put any more oil in

O and welcome to the Mad house most are away at the Cornish Bashtie but some other guru,s might be able to assist even more with your prob,
But we need to know more info on what you have done fitting the 1Y.??
Have you tried reducing the length of the tube so the stick can go further down, you can buy a new tube seal end look on e-bay will come under Golf MK 1/2

Hi, thanks for the reply. Ive used an angled sump off a non turbo, the inlet and outlet manifolds off a 1.7 non turbo, its smokin a light grey smoke all the time, but no loss of power. Im on holiday at the moment in devon and have had to top it up with 3.5 litres of oil on the way down!!!!!!
