gearbox filler/drain seals
I've an 84 caravelle, 1.9 DF engine and a 5 speed box, which sounds a bit whiney at the mo so want to change the gearbox oil. Couldn't see anything in the Haynes manual but I'm guessing there's copper seal rings for both the drain and the filler, if anyone's got part numbers or know's where I can get these I'd appreciate your help. Don't want to start taking stuff apart without having the right bits and pieces to put it back together

When it stops making that noise I'll be worried. That means it's fallen off.

Your choice to spend cash on the cvs and the time to do them with no result.. worth doing if they are clicking or boots split... but wont cure the howl... (if thats what it is!!)
Try to lift and push and pull the output flanges when the CV's are off.. play could be the flange on the pinion shafts or, in out play will be the output bearings..
One cautionary thing, in its current state it may go for a while longer and is currently most likely rebiuldable for sensible costs, once it breaks and wont do anything, then its a different story.. more and more parts are going obsolete and good used gearboxes are getting harder to find, Aidan has a large pile of scrap parts biulding from boxes that were "working"...

Thanks for the info, I've just had a look around under it and one of the CV boots is split, plenty of grease on the surrounding area's. I'll change that and then go for the gearbox work if necessary. If I end up going for the gearbox work there will still be a constant whine 'cause it means cancelling a week's camping in Scotland and someone's not going to be happy...
