Gearbox Issues

Post by mwheatley »

Hi, Would anyone know a possible reason behind my van being difficult to get into reverse? It has only been a recent issue but now takes about 5mins of trying! 1st to 2nd i believe are notoriously difficult, especially when cold, but I've not heard of issues with reverse. I have a 1991 Multivan lhd 1.6 diesel. Thanks, Matt.

if everything is in order, none of the gears should be difficult, its when things get worn and miss aligned that the problems start, then forceing it makes things worse..

could be that things are loose.. need to check the linkages from the box end all the way to the front.

Also check the clutch slave cylinder is not leaking and is operating fully, if its not operating correctly it will make gear changing more difficult .. my prevous 1.6td van was a nightmare to get into reverse, then found the slave cylinder knackered .. like a new box afterwards ..
