Devon 1984 camper not starting

Post by LeeCarey »

Hi there need some help from you kind folk:
2L Aircooled CU engine petrol

I have just come back from France where I managed to cover some 500 miles without incident. On return I parked van and left it for 3 weeks and now won't start. Pulled pipe off carb and no petrol being pumped up. changed fuel filter and checked fuel comming out of tank.

Next stage I guess is to remove the fuel pump, here are my questions:

Can I take of pump without draining oil ?
What should be the length of the push rod that operates pump ?
What is a suitable electric pump if i have to replace ?

Any other tips gratefully received

If you are sure the fuel pump is U/S I wouldn't even bother trying to take it off the engine for 2 reasons.

1, they are not simple to remove with the engine in situ.

2, unless you have another to fit back on you will still have to blank the hole in the engine casing.

Electric pumps are the simplest option ,,,,,, GSF have them in stock.

PS, if you do take it off you will loose very little oil.
One day you will find me,,

Thanks Fritz, looks like fuel pump is faulty so will do go the electric route. Have had a look at the gsf catalogue but cannot find a suitable one. any pointers! There is a pump on ebay, does this look suitable

Electric Fuel Pump Fitted

Post by LeeCarey »

For the record fitted Facet fuel pump type 40105 replaced fuel pipe left old mechanical pump in place.

Installed relay unit with prime pushbutton and for safety the relay unit senses the alternator warning signal and if absent de-energises relay. Approximate cost for bits 70 quid including new fuel pipe.

Many thanks for the help from Fritz and work done by cumbriankeith.

Perhaps it may be a good idea to include details in the wiki.
