Fridge advice...

Advice please...I've just got an Electolux 3 way fridge to fit in the van. I'm not going to use it on gas so do I have to vent it to the outside...?? cheers...

well no is the answer.. you still need a good airflow around the heat exchanger though

gas is the most efficient in mine, 230v is good... 12v... I wouldn't bother with

don't want to cut any holes in my van if I'm not keeping it after the end of the summer/autumn Kev - Also I have the added problem of it being a twin slider. Could I just install an computer fan or similar to help circulate the cool air?

Cheers Kev.. I wouldn't mind having it on gas but Tina is paranoid about it..even though we had a gas fridge in our bay years ago... Although like Louey I dont want to cut a hole in the side of the van..

so electric it will have to be...

I've seen that done and no small affair either.

the more air you move over the exchangers.. the more efficient the fridge is and the better it cools

As long as there is no risk of dangerous gases then I shall go ahead with this.

Fridge should only be wired to run on 12 v when engine running.
If you don't want to cut holes in the body work to discharge hot air from exchangers on back of fridge, wheres it all going? Hot day/night + heat from fridge = very hot van interior.

I understand about the 12v - though I may hook it up to an inverter for when we have hook ups this summer. Its my intention to get a T4 later this year so I don't want to butcher the van - also been advised NOT to put a vent hole in the B-pillar. As for the heat, I'll cope

My electolux was installed without external air vents, but has a good gap above and below it in the front panel - this allows natural convection still, but into the van rather than outside. It is shown as an option in the installation instructions.
Not a problem so far as all our camping has been in winter in Lakes etc (in fact, no real need for a fridge at all!), but may be different in France in the summer.

Is it running on gas or just 12V/240V?? Doesn't sound safe if it is on gas.

I got you, I'm guessing I don't need a flue for a 12v/240v setup though. I think I asked the wrong question at the start

You are right - it does have a fume vent, but I was referring to the air vents for removing heat from the heat exchangers.
As a result, there is just one small hull opening for the fume vent, but no huge rectangular vents.
