Hi,
Recently bought a T3/25 Caravelle 1989 1.6T/D-- non/poor runner.
Have stripped out interior and converting to camper. Made own rear rock/roll bed-new flooring, interior side panels/ cupboards etc. with Granada electric leather front seats going in soon.
Spent Sat.pm trying to get it going. Cam timing was about 1/2 tooth out. This has been corrected and diesel pump timing set at 1mm lift at flywheel/cam TDC--- is this correct ???
Appears to be no current getting to Glow plugs so connected up direct to battery and she started first turn off the key.
However it seem to be running rough and then began to rev uncontrolably high until Wife switched it off which suggests it was not diesel run on, I hope . What could have caused this ???
Is there a fuse in the Glow plug feed wire, if so where is it, what does it look like ??
I have prevoiusly owned a MK1 Golf pick up/Caddy with a 1.6n/a desel which changed for a 1.6T/D and then again later for an intercooled1.6T/D and cannot see a similar fuse set up.
Also got a B4 Passat estate VR6 exclusive and sons got a MK1 1.3Driver Golf, very low and new engine fitted.
BE WARNED--YOU CAN EXPECT PLENTY MORE QUESTIONS IN THE FUTURE--!!!!!!!
any advice/suggestions much appreciated.
cheers

The glow plug fuse is in that black box on the bulkhead in the engine bay it is a big 50 amp thing from memory. Over revving I aint got a clue, the only time mine did that was when the engine mounts had come loose and the engine was hanging in by the (by now) over stretched accelerator cable
sorry I can't help more, try asking something I know about

Hi Snag
Glow plug fuse is in the black box again not sure if it 20 or 50amp
High revving? how high? nuts high or 2-3000 ish?
If its all timed up correctly check the injector pump tick over screw, check that the cable runs freely and is not jamming.
As for fuel pump timing, the pump rotate twice to the fly wheels once so it maybe 180 degrees out.
I have a na so I think mine may be a bit different

thanks for the replies,
but what does the fuse look like in the black box in engine bay?
Just below 2 relays I have 2 srew terminals with red wires attached to each. Should the fuse be between these two points as I can see no fuse anywhere at all !!!! any one got a photo of how it should look pls ???
How do I know if Ihave the pump timing on the wrong rotation ?
Fly wheel mark lined up with pointer on bellhousing, locking bar on back of cam, both valves closed on no.1 cylinder ( closest to cam belt ), timing mark on pump sprocket lines up with mark on pump and pump locking pin fits -- is this correct ?
cheers
