New blue cap, genuine VW is the only one.
Keep it real.

Bump up

Any more info or answers to the Two questions please.

I have a blue one but I can not see a VW logo on it. It just says "made in Germany" and one other word "Reutter".

If it works, leave it, if it doesn't. don't.
You'll need a cooling system pressure tester to check it.

You connect a pipe the to blue cap that goes to your expansion bottle which should be located behind the number plate to the left

The black caps are usually not a pressure cap and are unusable on the header bottle (speaking from experience!)

They are pressure caps, just knackered ones.
Theres nowt wrong with black caps, if they work, which most of them don't.

so for diverting this thread slightly ducks, but i think i already have a little pipe going to the expansion tank from the header tank,so do i have to have two pipes running to it then, one from the blue cap and one from the header reservoir?........

Me too,

I have a pipe from the neck of the expansion tank, and an standard metal radiator style cap on the tank. Its a 1.6D and apart from a thermostat failing the cooling system has never been a problem?
