are you a tin top or other?? you can get the wire up the column by the windscreen but to fix to the roof you will need to drill through! not a good idea if you are a tin top!!

Under where the ashtray is I think Mocki meant, the radio slot?

Many just mount them on the dash, if you have a dash-tidy you can mount to that, maybe with a stiffener plate underneath, and the wires can come through the ashtray hole or just run back around the base of screen to the nearside windcreen pillar, think theres a gap in that corner.

Much as I hat to disagree nor indeed do I relish trying to predict what M0ki means, ever ;) :-

What M0ki means is take your ashtray out and bin it (or ebay it which seems to have become the fashon), wire up the CB with all cables coming out of the resultant ashtray hole to the CB then push the unit back into the hole so it sit's up at an angle protruding from said hole.

Many have this solution and it looks much better than it sounds but as a rampant smoker I like to have the huge ashtray just where it was designed by VW to be, in the ashtray hole. I have the CB mounted to the underneath of the dash between the steering column and the drivers door, the mike is magneted onto the dash between the instrument pod and the quarterlight. Next to it you can find the small backup ashtray for when I smoke with my right hand.

There is someone in the club who does have the radio mounted above the rear view mirror, I did consider it myself, but I cannot rememeber who it was now.

Hahaha, got that in my syncro, and how many times have I smashed my kneecap on that?

I seem to remember a trader (might have been the oft sworn at Poshbuggers) did a sort of wrap around fibreglass shell. It fitted from the RHS courtesy light round the front to the LHS courtesy light.

Hmm, your DoKA Cate? used to have the M0ki special ashtray mount?, musta put it a little too far forward methinks, either that or your being over enthusiastic when you jump out ;)

I fancy a shelf up there, as I have a high top and already got one huge hole in my roof I am giving some consideration to cutting some out of the cab roof too to give room for above driver storage. Anyone done this?
