Microbus To Caravelle Seat Swap- Urgent!

Post by shane r »

Trying to swap out my microbus seats for a set of caravelle. Pulled out the front bench and pulled up the carpet to reveal...no holes for the smaller two seater bench. Now, I don't mind drilling but, the holes need to be where the petrol tank currently is. Do I have to drop the tank off?

What have I gotten myself into!?

feeling lucky? dont know sorry, but you can lower the front (or is it rear?) edge of the tank with out disturbing too much of the pipe work, run the petrol down to reduce weight. use a scissor jack and plank of wood to lower it gently . you may want to put a stop on the drill once you have determined the depth that you JUST break through and have a spotter with a bloody good torch underneath. Watch for brake/clutch/coolant pipes too

Started to lower the front of the tank but have now stopped. I need acess to the underside to get a nut on the bolt really.

Need to come up with another plan. Just spent half a day on the job and in the end, put all the seats back the way they were. :(

If you have the vw "caravelle" seats then they actually fit on a pair of rails, makes them easy to drop out if need be..
fit the rails, slide the seats in and secure with the 4 M8 bolts (stops them sliding out!!).. no way would I try and bolt them to the floor with just the 4 M8 bolts... even using bigger ones I would use more and with a lenght of steel on the underside...

I've got the rails. They need to be bolted to the floor first. And there are no holes.

Because they are much shorter than the 3 seater that was there, I can bolt one side up using the old holes but, where the other end of the rails ends, there are no hols and it is directly above the tank.
