So why is oil spurting out my dipstick ?

Well, driving home from London last night and sprayed about 4 litres of oil on the M1.

I stopped at the services and topped her up, and it appeared that oil was coming out of the top of the dip stick.

Now, i havent got a seal at the top of the dipstick. for some reason the bit of plastic isnt there. I cant remember how long its not been there - it could have fallen off when i checked the oil before we departed London.

Second, is this enough reason for oil to spurt out anyway ?

I took the dipstick out, covered the hole with a rag and a jubilie clip and did the last 100 miles without issues.

The wife was driving and it appears to loose a bit of power now (and then resume) at 60mph - but not at any lower speeds.

Any ideas?

Im going to try and get a decent seal for the dipstick today - or carry on with a bodge. Im hoping its not a terminated 1Y engine

Check out your breather system and do replace the dip stick seal.
