Strange tickover.

I have what i think is described in the garage section as Vanagon syndrome.
2.1 engine that will suddenly run rough during warm up but if you turn it off and start it back up it`s perfect.
Unfortunatly the links aren`t doing anything so can anyone help me out as to the possible cause and hopefully a solution.
