Just wanted to dive into the wealth of knowledge. We have a 83 club joker we bought in October and we have no destructions for the operation of the appliances.
How is the Eberspacher Heater supposed to work, and how does the fridge work?
I've tried putting on the heater and it makes a noise, green light an blows cold air bit not hot and then switched off.
The fridge I have no idea it's got 3 settings for electric gas and battery but I can't tell if it's working as it's freezing in scotland anyway. Do you just press the battery button and it should work? What are the switches on the unit for?
I fear the leisure battery need to be replaced and that it's not helping in my quest for working appliances.
the fridge wont work on 12v unless the engine is running, and the ebberspacher has a low voltage cut out , which means it wont start unless the voltage at the heater is above 11v, which, if your battery is down, means symptoms as you describe..........
also fuel low will be the same symptoms..... see eberspacher bit in Wiki.
Can anyone recommend a replacement leisure battery? and we can try that first, I'm sure the one in Hubby said wasn't very powerful and seeing he's got the tv and the playstation in it well need to get one with plenty juice!
In rgards to the Eber
many of the earlier vans had the fuel pump removed from them to pass the TUV and thus that renders them usless for heating the vans
If you're in Scotland go onto west of scotland VW club forum and ask for an Auto electric dude. he fixed ours ...lives in linwood but have misplaced his name and number. he does it in his spare time but may be willing to take a look at yours ..>We needed a few parts which he and I managed to source through the VW grapevine including on here.
Once you get it working you'll be amazed ...You'll be opening windows even on the coldest night. I've slept in it at minus 6 and was warm enough alnight
As for the fridge there is a caravan supplier down in Largs Cabervans they might be able to take a looka nd service it for you not sure at price as I never got round to getting mines serviced and have never used it
We use those wee cool blue box things that keep the fridge cold for a day or so...good enough for a short trip
On longer trips we'd put stuff in the frdge as soona s we bought it and it helped to keep it cool for a wee while
Anymore info let me know
the guy for the Eber may be called Graham as I say check out the west of scotland forum

Thanks for that! He's sussed the fridge as he found an online manual so it's on to finding a new battery, some piping for the eber as there is only one pipe instead of two and that one looks like a bit off a hoover that's been gaffa taped on so we'll need that too.
