Mocki ? hand held motorolas

A mate has a pair of these and were taking them to Ireland in a month which seems like a good way to keep 2 vans in contact,

Need to keep them charged though, the cradle they sit in has a power supply plugged into it 240v-9v so is there an adapter/reducer that we could use from the cig lighter?

Are they PMRs?
I have 4 Cobra PMRs. their range is pretty crap.
2 - 3 Km line of sight.
Not very good in a built up area.
This will probably do the job

Are they old?
Do you know the model numbers?

Some of the old Motorola kit used to charge OK anywhere between 9V and 16V.

I'm talking 1990's old...... HT600's and the like.

No Dan they is pretty newish, motorola T5532.

My mate uses them for lock work on his long boat(it pi***s him of when I call it that) so range will only be shortish, so I will go with the maplin bit as I dont think they will like 14v across them.

yep, go with the maplin kit...
these are 446 pmr radio, licence free, short range, 500mW out, 2km tops range, not really much good for van to van less you can see each other.

Yep figured that Steve, We used them the other week to see if they would do and we were 1/2 mile appart and worked well,

As theyve never been before it will be good to talk them through stuff and we can arrange stops and all sorts while on the way.

cb would be better but we allready have these so more money for guinness..

you will not get much range from any pmr handheld on sale in most outlets, the law restricts the power output, but 2/3 to 4 km is good enough. a couple of cbs is better

i think they are the same, but on a different frequency. fcc are quiet strict.
i got some from the states (cobra), the band is a bit less crowded though...

The American FRS radios operate right in the middle of some rather important 'home office' frequencies in the UK. I'd be a bit careful with them!

A better solution (still illegal!) would be to get some of the Icom PMR rigs, and remove the solder blob inside that limits them to half a watt. That way you get powerful 5 watt radios, but still on the PMR 446 frequencies, so your chance of being found out is pretty much zero.
Alternatively, get the motorola's programmed up on PMR 446 frequencies.

I've got 4 sets of Maxon PM100s (mobile radios) that are simple to operate, and can put out 25 watts on PMR 446

Not that I would of course.

yep, just like i wouldnt use my standard c510 through its 50w car kit on 446.......... that would just be wrong.........
