Any advice on where to get an exhaust system for my '84 1900 petrol?

German Swedish French? Just Kampers?

FV, The question is, do you want to fit an exhaust system to your vehicle and then forget about it for a while >?

I guess the answer to this question is yes.......

OK then, in that case try to fit a stainless exhaust sytem, the choices are from one of 3 companies who supply this type of system.....

Option 1 is a JP exhausts of Macclesfield who if you contact them will arange to make/supply/ and fit their version of a T25 exhaust system.
Supply and fit = 600 engilsh.....

Option 2 is a Bluebird Customs stainless system for a cool 475 GBP, but it is a fit yourself jobbie.......

And Option 3 is a new one on the block made by LA Performance (Lee Arnold) first avilable at Dubfreeze for a stunning price of 395 english pounds .

I belive most mild steel alternatives can cost in excess of 300 pounds fitted but have a very limited life span......where the Stainless option should last the life of the van or you which ever comes first....

One of the things that made the head seals chafe and die on the early boxer was the weight of the exhaust hanging on the heads. There were rods available that transferred some of the weight onto the 8mm bolts that held the bottom tins on. Whatever you decide on, try to relieve the weight on the heads.

There seem to be several unanswered questions with the New Kid on the block, the least of all being the use of a Golf oil filter on a T25.

Just had a looksee at JP's website, not that I need an exhaust im just nosey

and this link shows a pic of the Transporter system .... clearly shows the supports that were being spoken about above ...

Afraid it doesnt.. the early system has bars running from under the engine to the silencer flanges.. not like the late system (JP is the late style)

None needed.. if you have never seen the early ones then you couldnt know... The JP have some extra bracing where the VW system doesnt, but thats coz Stainless has a habit of hardening and cracking...

This is a cracking read as I may need to change my entire system.

At present my bus seems to be wearing a bit of a exhaust miss-match.
My 1986 DG 1900 has got an oval silencer with a raised seam. The seam prevents the normal use of hangers and straps to support it. A MOT failure no doubt.
So I decided to buy a second hand round silencer and hanging gumpf but notice my pipework runs to the backside of my silencer and not the end. Also my pipework between heads and silencer is very basic. No cast elbow or cat etc .
I can't narrow it down but I'm sure I'm running a pre August 1985 system on a 86 van? Will it hurt?
I'm worried the lack of support will damage something despite it running like this since aquiring the van last july (about 5K ago).
Any info or ideas as to what I've got hanging of the back of my bus & what to do?. I could fabricate brackets for MOT I suppose!!??

From memory you've got a transition year van with the early exhaust system. If you need to swap the whole system can't you swap to a later stainless one ? .... not sure what the difference is ... air filter box springs to mind for some reason ?

Yes, I seem to be constantly sending bits back because of this transition year thingbob.
My oval silencer with seams....is it an air cooled jobbie?

No, just a certain make of early style. The raised edges on our late system silencer were a right pain, used to catch on the support cradles and a barsteward to get it out
