Switch the wheel with your equally worn spare and see if the problem goes away, if it does its the wheel, if not its the axle (or another wheel, sometimes acustics can make it sound like its somewhere else).
I had a remold tyre start to decase last year though it showed itself in vibration rather than noise - hard to diagnose initally but when touching the tyre after a road run I found it had a small hot spot - check them carefully.
Also, your wheel may be on tight but what about the driveshaft behind it? Spins at the same speed. Are the bearings fine?
I know this sounds simple but it's happened to me. Check there isn't a small stone trapped in the tread of the tyre, it'll click every time it hits the road and does sound 'metallic'.
E D I T: Sorry, didn't notice you'd already thought of this
I also had the small round metal bit that goes over a spring to do with the brakes come off in Ireland and rattle around inside the wheel hub. A garage found it.
