Replacing input shaft seal on gearbox for a diesel where it has been run for a few hundred miles without a spigot shaft bearing. Bearing fitted now in crank ok.
How much clearance should there be on input shaft when running inside bearing, before it will be enough to knacker the seal again?? Have put micrometer on shaft & varies from 14.50mm at spline end through 14.57mm in middle to 14.84mm at front end. There was discernible lateral movement in bearing when I tried it on shaft before fitting it to crank.
Do people think I will get away with this - or should I find a replacement shaft now before hoiking box back out in near future 'cos it's leaking again??
Opinions & advice gratefully welcomed as usual!
Ta v much.
