Help! Know someone who can look at our van in Selsey area?

Post by blue »

On Saturday, a local mechanic pronounced our T25 panel van engine ready to die. It's a non standard engine, a 1.6D from a Jetta, originally the van had a 1.7D

I just spoke to my VW mechanic back in Cornwall, and he's not ready to give up yet. We may well still need an engine, but need a couple more checks first.

How close are you to us? We're in Selsey. We need help, mechanic, club member, friendly vdubber, anyone who can help. We're trying to keep her off the road until the weekend, as we're away from home, and would get towed home to Cornwall if we broke down, and have to stay here as we're looking after someones pets. My VW mechanic in Cornwall says to check the following:
check for blocked or bent breather from top of rocker cover to air intake
check for blocked injector pipe [we also have a problem with leaky diesel breather pipes]
check inside cambelt cover for leaky seal at the back

main symptoms:
loads of oil coming out of base of dipstick tube - mechanic's view [engine is plastered with it on the right hand side, dribs down from right hand side, somewhere below oil filter to dipstick zone]
noisy engine [rattly: mechanic here though broken piston rings, but apparently, it may not be]
oil light staying on a little longer than normal [stays on longer than normal anyway, as it has the wrong oil pickup from the time they swapped the 1.7d for the 1.6d Jetta engine]
otherwise seems to be running fine, power is fine, so far

Our engine is a non standard engine, a JK from a Jetta.

Sstill on the look out for an engine 1.7d standard complete turnkey engine, straight out of another T25, as it may still be knackered. Any thoughts?

Anything you can do to help? How much an hour are you? Can you come to us, or how near are you for us to come to you? Do you know anyone else in the area who might be able to help us out with this?

Please help if you can! Post a reply or mail me. This is our daily drive and we need to keep her running.

Cheers,
Blue
